This calculator estimates the rate of evaporation of surface moisture from freshly placed concrete based on weather forecast data and the simplified equation published in Uno, P.J. (1998), "Plastic Shrinkage Cracking and Evaporation Formulas," ACI Materials Journal, 95(4), pp. 365–375, as referenced in ACI 305R.
Forecast data is provided "as-is" by Open-Meteo and may differ from observed conditions. Concrete temperature is not measured by the weather service and must be supplied by the user (default assumption is air temperature plus a user-defined offset). The 0.20 lb/ft²/hr threshold is a precautionary indicator from ACI 305 — actual cracking risk depends on mix design, curing practices, slab geometry, restraint, sub-base conditions, and many factors not captured here.
